After a sticky start to the season, Colorado Football has won three straight games impressively, sitting at 4-1. Buffaloes’ wide receiver Will Sheppard was asked about Saturday’s 48-21 victory over UCF, giving a response that took a shot at his former school.
Sheppard previously played in the SEC with Vanderbilt, featuring for the Commodores in four seasons from 2020-2023. When asked if this was the most complete win since he got to Colorado, the Buffaloes’ wide receiver said it was the most complete win he has had in his college career.
Buffaloes’ Wide Receiver Speaking Facts Despite Throwing Shade
The comment from Will Sheppard may seem unnecessary, especially to a team where he played for four seasons. However, the Buffaloes’ wide receiver answered the question honestly: “If y’all know where I came from, Vanderbilt, that’s the most complete win I’ve had in my career.”
Former Vanderbilt receiver Will Sheppard referenced Vanderbilt in his postgame presser when asked if today was Colorado’s most complete win since he’s arrived.

Sheppard saw Vanderbilt win only nine games in his four seasons with the team, the majority of them against Group of 5 or FCS opponents. The best two came during the 2022 season, with back-to-back wins over Kentucky on the road and Florida in the season’s final weeks. Despite two huge wins for the program, they were not as complete as Colorado’s win over UCF this past weekend.
During the game against Kentucky in 2022, Sheppard finished with five receptions for 88 receiving yards and a touchdown. They were great figures, but not a 100-yard receiving game. He has only passed that milestone four times in his college career and just twice against Power 5 opponents in South Carolina (2021) and Florida (2023).
He may have given a different answer if the question had been about his performance. However, Colorado played arguably its best game under head coach Deion Sanders, most tipping them to lose. The win takes them to 4-1 on the season, with a big chance of a Big 12 Championship game.
Will Sheppard Hoping UCF Game Will Kick Start His Season
Buffaloes’ wide receiver Will Sheppard led the team in Saturday’s win over the UCF Knights with four receptions for 99 receiving yards and a touchdown. It was the highest amount in his five Colorado games in 2024 and his first touchdown of the season. Aside from the Baylor game in Week 4, Sheppard had been teetering on an explosive game, with him coming close to that against the Knights.
The Week 5 performance could hopefully kick start his season with the Buffs, playing second and third fiddle to Travis Hunter and Jimmy Horn Jr. Sheppard had hoped his move from Vanderbilt to Colorado would help boost his draft stock, getting him to play with an NFL-caliber quarterback in Shedeur Sanders. However, he has yet to make the most of his targets, with others producing more in the first four games.
Sheppard was always the leading man at Vanderbilt and constantly put up decent numbers despite bad quarterback play. Now, he is in a crowded receiver room and finding it hard to break out. After his near 100-yard receiving game, he hopes to continue that after this week’s bye when they face another top Big 12 team in Kansas State.
