Colorado Buffaloes two-way star cornerback and wide receiver Travis Hunter responded to comments from legendary NFL cornerback Richard Sherman Wednesday.
Sherman, who played wide receiver for the Stanford Cardinal until his senior year when they made him a defensive back, prompted the back-and-forth after criticizing Hunter’s skills as a wide receiver.
Richard Sherman thinks Colorado Buffaloes WR/DB Travis Hunter is a better DB
Sherman, who was on the “St. Brown Podcast” with Detroit Lions star Amon-Ra St. Brown and his brother fellow NFL wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown, explained that Hunter’s wide receiver skills were “bland.”

Amon-Ra agreed with Sherman, saying that Hunter is more impressive as a defensive back than a wide receiver. Hunter has expressed a desire to continue playing both ways at the next level, but almost no one thinks anyone can do so at a level as intense as the NFL.
In an article from The Athletic, Hunter’s high school coach Lenny Gregory said that he has never seen Hunter get tired.
“He’s the best football player I’ve seen in my life,” Lenny Gregory, Hunter’s high school coach, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ahead of his senior year. “I’ve never seen him tired.”
If Hunter’s sub-200-pound frame can manage to stay healthy while playing both sides of the ball and he continues to be able to play at a high level in the NFL without a significant loss of stamina, he can carve a path unlike any other in NFL history.
If Hunter is only allowed to play one way, the debate about which side of the ball that will be will likely rage on until he plays his first NFL snap.
