The Colorado Buffaloes and head coach Deion Sanders took their show on the road to Lincoln, Neb. to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers for their first non-FCS matchup of the season.
The Buffaloes would quickly find themselves down multiple scores on what was a record-breaking night for viewership for NBC.
Colorado Buffaloes vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers was the game of the night
While the Texas Longhorns taking on the Michigan Wolverines may have been the matchup of the day, the night game in Lincoln drew eyes from all over the nation.
The matchup between Nebraska and Colorado drew a total of 6.3 million viewers on NBC. According to Sam McKewon of the Omaha World Herald it is now the record holder for the most-watched Big Ten/NBC Saturday night game.
That’s over three times the population of Nebraska and slightly more than the total population of Colorado. Despite national attention, Nebraska had no issue taking care of Colorado on the field. Defensive end Ty Robinson explained that the Huskers had a plan to come out hot in an article from The Athletic.
“That’s how we wanted to come out and start the game,” Nebraska defensive end Ty Robinson said. “With dominance. We wanted them to feel us.”
Nebraska found themselves up 28-0 before things began to finally slow down, allowing the Buffaloes to put up 10 unanswered before the end of the game. Huskers head coach Matt Rhule explained that his team hasn’t earned the right to look ahead despite the big, emotional win in an article from The Athletic.
“Where our players will get in trouble and everyone will get in trouble,” Rhule said, “is if we start zipping ahead to four weeks from now, five weeks from now. We have not earned that right. We have not earned that right to start looking ahead.”
Fans on social media either lamented the broadcast team that they found to be subpar, or pointed out that the majority of “casuals” were tuning in to watch Sanders and the Buffaloes lose.
Imagine if they had an A, B, C, or D booth instead of an F-

That’s a lot of us who “enjoyed” subpar commentary. NBC can and needs to do better.

I thought of it as the renewal of a classic Big 8 Rivalry!
