The Colorado Buffaloes are having a rough 2025 season as they enter Week 11 with a brutal 3-6 record and are 14th in the Big 12 Conference. While things are not going too well for the program, it reportedly caused some changes in the coaching staff’s roles. Let’s take a deeper dive into what happened and what it means going forward.
Colorado Buffaloes Reportedly Demote Pat Shurmur

The Colorado Buffaloes have reportedly made the decision to shake things up as coach Deion Sanders has stripped play-calling duties from offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur. This was first reported by Brent Schrotenboer of USA TODAY, but it has already been in place for a little while now.
The report states that Colorado tight ends coach and passing game coordinator Brett Bartolone has been calling plays for the team since the Utah game, meaning the team has already played two games since the change had occurred.
During his weekly news conference on Tuesday, coach Sanders made a comment about the possibility of coaching staff changes without telling the media directly.
“I might have already changed it, and you don’t know. I don’t do stuff and blow the whistles and make major announcements.”
The Buffs are having a brutal offensive season as they are tied for 110th in college football with 22.0 points per game. They are also 97th in passing (199.8) and 102nd in rushing (130.0). This is not the only change happening to the offense as well as freshman quarterback Juju Lewis is going to be starting on Saturday against the West Virginia Mountaineers.
It will be interesting to see if the Colorado Buffaloes are able to turn the offense around in the final three games. The program would need to win the remaining three games if they want to guarantee a bowl game appearance. At the time of this writing, Colorado has not publicly commented on the situation.
