Two years ago, the Colorado Buffaloes finished the season 1-11. At the time, the program appeared dead in the water with no hope of a resurrection. But an offseason head coaching change breathed new life into Colorado and put them at the center of the college football landscape.
That hire, of course, was Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, who had been the head coach at Jackson State, an Historically Black College and University. He brought a new swagger to the program along with a plethora of new players. After going 4-8 in his first season, Sanders has coached the Buffaloes to a 6-2 record thus far in 2024.
With their 34-23 win over the Cincinnati Bearcats on Sunday, Colorado has clinched at least a .500 regular season record for the first time since 2016.
And one of their star players had a message for everyone who did not believe they could do it.
Colorado Buffaloes Star Carter Stoutmire Has a Message for Team’s Critics
After the game, Colorado safety Carter Stoutmire was filmed giving a message to everyone who doubted Sanders and his players going into the season:
“Don’t ever disrespect us again. We came out here, we don’t listen to the critics. We just play ball and do what we do. We ain’t just winning 6, we winning 10. We going bowling”

The last time Colorado played in a Bowl Game was 2020 when the then 5-7 Buffaloes played in the Alamo Bowl.
Stoutmire, one of the new players that Sanders recruited to the program when he was first hired, has 25 tackles and two passes defended this season.
Colorado Buffaloes Head Coach Deion Sanders Did Not Want to Be Ranked
All season long, Sanders and his players have clapped back at their doubters by winning football games. Despite their high level of success this year, the Buffaloes have constantly been left off the AP Top-25 rankings every week.
After the game on Sunday, Sanders sent a blunt message to AP voters:
“We don’t even want to be ranked. Don’t rank us, please. We don’t like that. We’d rather be at the back, in the dark, just chilling in the cut. We good, we cool, we straight. So don’t feel pressure to rank us.”
Well, the AP did not listen. Colorado came in ranked 23rd when the rankings were released on Monday.
