College football has an “injury” problem. Last week, amid programs allegedly using fake injuries to force clock stoppage and earn extra timeouts, the Southeastern Conference announced punishments for teams that dabbled in the practice. However, this week, the SEC has another issue, with Kentucky Wildcats head coach Mark Stoops fuming after his quarterback, Brock Vandagriff, took a late hit early in a road tilt against the highly-ranked Tennessee Volunteers. The issue isn’t necessarily the timing of the hit but the fact that lineman Omarr Norman-Lott took a shot up high on Vandagriff despite not being among the 11 players on defense.
While near his coaches on the sideline, Norman-Lott pushed down an escaping Vandagriff as the signal-caller scampered out of bounds toward the UT side of the field. Stoops has since sent the film to the Southeastern Conference demanding action, while college football fans quickly put the Tennessee Volunteers on blast for their lack of internal punishment.
College Football Fans Take Aim at UT Vols
According to On3 through Twitter:
NEW: Mark Stoops has contacted the SEC about the late hit on Brock Vandagriff vs. Tennessee: ‘No place’ for those actions in football (@CBeasmoreSports, @SECNetwork)
In a closely fought SEC battle between the Kentucky Wildcats and Tennessee Volunteers, a penalty was not called on UT defensive lineman Omarr Norman-Lott for striking UK quarterback Brock Vandagriff despite not being in the field of play. Norman-Lott pushed over Vanagriff after the latter made his way to the sideline as a runner. Stoops says there is “no place” for this behavior in college football and sent the play into the office of the Southeastern Conference for further investigation. Tennessee won the game 28-18, with Vanagriff going 10-of-17 for 123 yards, one touchdown, and a pick. He left the game with an undisclosed injury, with backup Gavin Wimsatt replacing him.
The latest controversy surrounding the SEC has college football fans up in arms, this time putting the Tennessee Volunteers squarely in their crosshairs. Last week, fans put Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin on blast after the SEC made an in-season ruling regarding faked injuries. Nevertheless, UT is the latest Southeastern school to receive the wrath of football fans:
Good. That trashy program deserves punishment.
