The early slate of college football games did not disappoint. Ohio State survived a home scare against Nebraska. Notre Dame dropped 51 in a ranked win over an undefeated Navy squad, and Indiana remained undefeated with a 31-17 victory over the Washington Huskies. However, the game that gained the most traction this weekend was a Big 12 clash between the Texas Tech Red Raiders and TCU Horned Frogs. In a 35-34 loss, Texas Tech kicker Reese Burkhardt made waves on social media for making a political statement supporting Republican presidential nominee Donald J. Trump.
In the second quarter, Burkhardt scored on a 22-yard fake field goal attempt, scampering for the front pylon on a fourth-and-goal play. Burkhardt lifted his jersey in celebration, showing off his white undershirt that read “Trump 24 MAGA.” College football fans rushed to social media, making Burkhardt’s celebration go viral.
College Football Fans Divided Over MAGA Celebration
According to media personality Coleton Furlow:
Texas Tech Kicker fakes a field goal and scores a TD. Shows off a shirt that says “Trump ’24 MAGA.”
It’s not every day a team pulls off a flawlessly executed fake field goal for a touchdown. However, the Texas Tech Red Raiders did precisely that on Saturday against in-state rival TCU, using a fake field goal on a short fourth-and-goal in the second quarter while trailing 14-3. On the snap, the TTU holder flipped the football to kicker Reese Burkhardt, with the right-footed specialist scampering wide and right for a five-yard touchdown. Burkhardt reacted by pulling up his jersey and down on his undershirt, with the bottom layer reading “Trump 24 MAGA” in Sharpie.
In the 35-34 loss, Burkhardt went 2-for-2 on extra points while missing his lone field goal, a 50-yard attempt. On the season, the senior is 3-for-4 on field goals and is a career 14-of-14 on extra points. However, his celebration was met with a massive response on social media, with college football fans split on his antics. The 2024 United States presidential election will take place on November 5:

I really feel hope for that generation. They see what's going on with the Left and are rebelling.
