College Football is the best sport for quite a few reasons, but perhaps one of the best is that an upset can happen to anyone against any team. With only 12 regular-season games, a single loss can be the difference between a special season and a season that fans want to forget.
Naturally, these upsets don’t happen that often, but they happen enough to keep things interesting. Some weeks, there are no major upsets, and then there are weeks like this past Saturday.
Is Notre Dame’s Season Over?
Notre Dame had a huge win last week against Texas A&M, but that is now far in the past after they lost to Northern Illinois at home. For the Irish their season now is in serious danger as they actually don’t have a ton of great opponents on their schedule. The only ranked teams remaining on their schedule are USC and Louisville. Besides that, their schedule is full of lower-tiered P4 programs and four G5 opponents.
One has to wonder whether Notre Dame has to go 10-0 the rest of the way to make the College Football Playoff as the NIU loss is going to haunt them the rest of the season.
So, is the season over? No, but they have very little room for error, including margin of victory.
Gridiron Heroics Top 25 Poll
The Gridiron Heroics Top 25 is a poll that starts off with the first rankings matching the final rankings from last year. For example, Washington finished ranked in the Top 5 last year, yet are unranked in the AP Top 25. Rather than punishing them despite the Huskies not losing a single game, they remain ranked very high on our poll.
T. Texas (+2)
2. Washington
3. Georgia (+1)
4. Missouri (+2)
5. Alabama
If you didn’t watch the game, you’d see that Alabama blew out South Florida. If you did watch the game, however, you’d see that they were in a one-point game with ten minutes left. Is this something to be concerned about, or are you impressed by how quickly Alabama was able to put up nearly 30 points?
6. Ole Miss (+1)
7. Ohio State (+1)
8. Oregon (+1)
9. Arizona (+1)
10.USC (+1)
11. Penn State (+1)

Michigan’s loss against Texas was ugly, but I think it was more of a matchup issue than a talent issue.
