‘SEC Sell Out’: College Football Fans Clown On3 Personality After Advocating For SEC, Big Ten Only Playoff

College football is less than two weeks away from having a set 12-team playoff field. On Tuesday, the most recent College Football Playoff rankings dropped, with a sea of three-loss teams falling after suffering brutal upsets last weekend. However, the top half remained essentially the same, with a trio of Big Ten teams, an SEC squad, the Miami Hurricanes of the ACC, and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame (Independent) rounding out the top six. Most notably, the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Ole Miss Rebels, fresh off heartbreaking road losses against bottom-of-the-barrel conference teams, are on the outside looking in regarding the expanded College Football Playoff 12-team field.

With Alabama, Ole Miss, and the South Carolina Gamecocks outside of the current playoff picture, given their 8-3 records, many fans and media members could make sense of the CFP committee’s rationale. However, one prominent college football personality believes the committee has done the Southeastern Conference a disservice and believes the conference should push for its own playoff depending on the final standing on Selection Sunday. Nevertheless, football fans bashed the talking head for his ridiculous idea.

On3 Talking Head Advocates for SEC-Big Ten Playoff

Oklahoma won 24-3.

According to J.D. Pickell, the host of On3’s “Hard Count on YouTube:

If I’m the SEC, and I’m seeing who’s getting a playoff spot over some of our 3-loss teams that would rag doll them… I may just go start my own playoff with the Big Ten.

J.D. Pickell of On3 is not buying what the College Football Playoff committee is selling. If the season ended today, the conference breakdown by team would be as follows: Four Big Ten, Three SEC, two ACC, one Big 12, one Independent, and One Mountain West. Among the non-conference champions with more than one loss are just two Southeastern Conference teams, the Tennessee Volunteers and the Georgia Bulldogs, with fellow two-loss team Clemson of the ACC on the outside looking in. Meanwhile, the top five three-loss teams, Alabama, Ole Miss, Missouri, Texas A&M, and South Carolina, are also members of the SEC.

Nevertheless, Pickell believes many of the one-loss teams destined for the CFP, most likely Penn State, Notre Dame, Miami, SMU, Boise State, and Indiana, would be massive underdogs on a neutral site against the SEC’s three-loss teams. Pickell goes as far as to say he believes the committee should toss out records, bumping a three-loss Southeastern Conference team over a one-loss Big Ten squad. College football fans took exception to Pickell’s comments, criticizing him for suggesting the SEC and Big Ten break off from the NCAA-sanctioned CFP:
