It is November, so that means it is time for the first College Football Playoff Rankings of the 2022 Season. I can’t believe the playoff committee actually got the top four right. They are obviously weighing on who you played and where you played them. We can argue about 5-25, but the top four were exactly right for any unbiased college football fan.
College Football Playoff Rankings:1-4
#1 Tennessee(8-0)- Have the best wins in college football, even though they were at home.
#2 Ohio State (8-0)-Have looked dominant and a road win at Happy Valley has helped.
# 3 Georgia (8-0)-Have looked up and down, looked dominant in neutral site game vs. Oregon.
#4 Clemson (8-0)- Have beaten good teams in Wake, FSU & Syracuse. No great wins and still have QB questions, but this is based on who they have played already.
College Football Playoff Rankings 5-15
#5 Michigan (8-0)-Has a weak schedule but has looked dominant vs. bad teams. No road win vs. top 70.
#6 Alabama (7-1)- Only loss was to number one by three on the road. Watch out for one loss Saban teams!
#7 TCU (8-0)- I think this team is very lucky, but they are undefeated in a very competitive Big 12, this won’t last.
#8 Oregon( 7-1)- The best team in the PAC 12 as of now. Bo Nix has played amazing since week one. Can be top 4 in the college football playoff rankings.
#9 USC (7-1)- Offense can score a ton of points, defense looks off. They control their own destiny.
#10 LSU (6-2)- Bayou Bengals control their destiny in the SEC west. Can they move up in the college football playoff rankings to a top 4? I don’t think so.
#11 Ole Miss (8-1)- The Rebs control their own destiny as well in the SEC and have an outside shot of the playoff if they win out.
#12 UCLA (7-1)- Don’t count the Bruins out of the PAC 12 title or the playoff. If they win out, they can make the top 4.
#13 Kansas State (6-2)- While firmly in the Big 12 title race, I think K-State is out of playoff contention but can still make a New Years Six Bowl.
#14 Utah (6-2)- That loss to Florida kills their playoff chances, but they still have a shot at making the PAC 12 Championship game and a great bowl.
#15 Penn State (6-2)- Very overrated here for the Nittany Lions, no good wins. They are propped up by losses to top 5 teams.
College Football Playoff Rankings: 16-25
#16 Illinois (7-1)- The favorite to win the Big 10 West and play for the title. This team plays complimentary football and might be able to take out the East winner and have a shot at top 4 of the college football playoff rankings.
#17 North Carolina (7-1)- Even though the Tar Heels are far back on this week’s college football playoff rankings, they control their own destiny. If they win out and beat Clemson they would have an argument for the top 4. They need to find a defense to do that though.
#18 Oklahoma State(6-2)- Their chances at the playoff went away last week with their embarrassing loss to K-State. They can however still contend for a Big 12 Championship and New Years Six Bowl.
#19 Tulane (7-1)- The Green Wave are hands down the best team in the group of 5. They have a huge win at K-State and are in the driver’s seat for a New Years Six Bowl.
#20 Syracuse (6-2)- The Orange started hot, playing bad teams and handling their business. Oronde Gadsden and Sean Tucker are budding stars. They just need a good win to make me a believer.
#21 Wake Forest (6-2)- Bad loss this past week to Louisville. The offense was all out of sorts, but I believe that was an outlier and this Demon Deacon team will turn it around and finish the year top 15 of the College Football Playoff Rankings.
#22 NC State (6-2)- Another overrated team in this week’s rankings. They can’t throw the ball and barely got by a bad Virginia Tech team last week. I expect them to fall out of the rankings after this week and finish with 4 losses.
#23 Oregon State (6-2)- A real gritty team that no one wants to play in Corvallis. Their two losses are to teams in the top 15 of the College Football Playoff rankings. Don’t sleep on this Beavers team!
#24 Texas (5-3)- The best three loss team in the country. They are not quite back, but maybe with a healthy Ewers they can finish strong.
#25 UCF (6-2)- Huge win for the Knights last week to gain first place in the AAC. Maybe Gus gets the boys to ten wins and a New Years Six?
