‘May As Well Be The NFL G-League’: College Football Fans Flabbergasted Over Latest $1M NIL Demand

Last week, the Marshall Thundering Herd flipped college football on its head following their withdrawal from the Independence Bowl. In the college football era of NIL and soon-to-be revenue sharing, Marshall opted to skip their bowl game following the departure of a large portion of their roster to the transfer portal. The transfer portal has become an amateur free agency for college football, with programs clashing in bidding wars for upscale talent. On Tuesday, one top-end transfer player reported to have a seven-figure price tag for his services.

Eric Singleton Jr., formerly of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, will command a $1 million NIL deal per On3. Singleton currently sits as one of the top offensive playmakers in the portal. With college football more and more representing the professional model, fans have become more frustrated with the direction of the sport.

According to On3Sports:

Georgia Tech WR Eric Singleton Jr. is expected to command over $1M in the transfer portal, @PeteNakos_ reports.

Singleton’s top schools consist of LSU, Texas, Auburn, Miami, and Ole Miss.

Eric Singleton Jr. will earn a seven-figure payday at his newest school per On3. A three-star recruit in the 2023 class, according to 247Sports, Singleton currently has a Crystal Ball projection for the Ole Miss Rebels. As a true freshman last year, Singleton tallied 48 receptions for 714 yards and six touchdowns. This year, the speedy wideout accumulated 56 receptions for 764 yards and three scores. He also rushed 21 times for 131 yards and a touchdown.

Per 247Sports, Singleton is the second highest-ranked transfer portal player, sitting one spot behind former Washington State Cougars superstar quarterback John Mateer. Singleton’s NIL valuation has some college football fans frustrated, putting the current state of the sport on blast:
