For the fifth straight year in College Football, the LSU Tigers will start their season 0-1. This year, their opening loss came to a fiery USC team 27-20 in Las Vegas.

The LSU head coach Brian Kelly was clearly furious by the final score of the game, knowing that his team had played much better for the huge majority of the contest. In his postgame press conference, he made some statements that may have only come from the heat of the moment. Now, tons of fans are calling the head coach out for some awful statements about his quarterback.

Brian Kelly Had Some Intense Statements Following The Brutal Loss

While he did note that his players played their butts off, however, he also had some shocking statements about his own team, and specifically his own quarterback Garrett Nussmeier.

It all started when he proclaimed:

“It’s the first time since I’ve been here (at LSU) that I’m angry at my football team,” said Kelly, via Stewart Mandel of The Athletic

Kelly thought that his team should have put USC away earlier so that they would have never been in the game down the stretch:

“We had some guys play their butts off tonight and we’re sitting here again, we’re sitting here again talking about the same things, about not finishing when you have an opponent in a position to put them away,” Kelly said, via video posted by The Bengal Tiger. “But what we’re doing on the sideline is feeling like the game is over. I’m so angry about it that I’ve got to do something about it. I’m not doing a good enough job as a coach.”

While these comments came from his anger, they highlight much bigger issues that are going on for their program. What made matters much worse for football fans, is how Kelly spoke of his quarterback and basically threw him under the bus:

“I thought the quarterback played well tonight. He outplayed our quarterback,” Kelly said, via College Transfer Portal. “He made the plays when he needed to.”

Fans have been slamming the coach for these comments, and many LSU fans already want him gone. They have seen and heard enough from him, and many do not want him as the coach of the team. To make matters worse is that his quarterback had an incredible game:

Nussmeier went 29-of-38 for 304 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. The junior even recorded a higher QBR (88.1) than Moss (79.2) in Las Vegas.

Fans thought this was awful of Kelly to throw his quarterback under the bus when he had a very solid game.

“Did Brian Kelly really throw his QB under the bus?” a fan asked.

“This is a wild statement after the game Nussmeier had,” another fan wrote.

“I don’t understand the point of this,” a fan wondered.

While Moss was spectacular himself, and was in many ways the better quarterback between the two, it’s shocking that head coach Kelly would say something like this. Fans haven’t just been calling out the coach for this, but have been slamming him for the way the entire program is going. Fans are ready for new leadership:

Is it too soon to fire Brian Kelly? This is getting ridiculous. Every year now. 🤬
