Among the most accomplished college football coaches of the 1970s and 1980s is former Notre Dame Fighting Irish leadman Lou Holtz. In those twenty years, Holtz won the Paul “Bear” Bryant Award twice, given to the country’s best college football coach. He also led Notre Dame to a win in the 1988 championship game. Holtz’s spark waivered in the 1990s before winning SEC college football coach of the year honors in 2000. Since his final year of coaching in 2004, Holtz shited to broadcasting until 2015.
The 1977 Walter Camp Coach of the Year, Holtz, is now primarily heard from via his Twitter account, mainly talking about Notre Dame football with Aaron Taylor or speaking on American politics. A staunch supporter of former President Donald J. Trump, Holtz made a statement following Sunday’s apparent assassination attempt on the Republican nominee.
Former College Football HC Offers Prayers For 45th U.S. President

According to Lou Holtz’s official Twitter account:
Pray for President Trump.
Holtz, a known Republican since Jesse Helms served as the Senator of North Carolina from 1973 to 2003, publicly backed Donald Trump during his first run for the President of the United States office in 2016. Holtz has also shared his disapproval with former San Francisco 49ers dual-threat passer Colin Kaepernick kneeling before NFL games circa 2016.
Holtz is also very vocal about election fraud and voter eligibility while joining Team Trump through Twitter late on Sunday. Besides a small stint with the NFL and retirement, Holtz held a head coaching position at the college level from 1969 to 2004. He compiled a 249-132-7 record during that span, including winning 11 bowl games with four separate programs. He is best known for his tenure with the ND Fighting Irish.
