This season of college football has gotten out of hand. Its chaos every week…..and I’m here for it! It seems like NIL has created a lot of parity in college football. Any Saturday any team can win. So lets talk about the games.
Big Losses….
#15 Texas A&M lost to Auburn 43-41 in a quadruple OT game. Marcell Reed actually threw the ball a decent amount. Their defense Just couldn’t get a stop and Auburn sacked him four times and pressured him a number of other times. Jarquez Hunter and Cam Coleman tore up A&M’s defense.
#7 Alabama got trounced by unranked Oklahoma. 24-3. This is a sign Jalen Milroe needs to go back to school. He has looked great as a runner, but as a passer still has a lot of work to do and it has affected his stock. He threw just 164 yards, 3 INTs in this game with one being a pick-six. Oklahoma was surprisingly able to rush for 260 yards as a team. This loss possibly knocked Alabama out of the playoffs.
BYU continued their tumble, losing their second in a row 28-23 to ASU. Cam Skattebo and Jordyn Tyson ran the ASU engine. Skattebo had 147 yards and three touchdowns. BYU couldn’t get a stop early and couldn’t do enough in the second half. Retzlaff threw for a bunch of yards, but also two picks.
#16 Colorado lost big to Kansas who was 4-6 coming in. The final score was not close at 37-21. Colorado couldn’t hang with Devin Neal who ripped off 207 rushing yards, 4 catches 80 yards and four total touchdowns. Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter played well and the game was a bit of a sack fest with each team getting six. Kansas pretty much led the whole way. Kansas has won four straight games against ranked opponents.
Army finally lost its first game to Notre Dame 49-14. Quarterback Bryson Daly rushed for over 100 yards. It was expected that they wouldn’t be able to keep up with Notre Dames level of talent.
Louisville beat Pittsburgh 37-9 to make the ACC a mess outside the top 3 teams. Pitt started the season 7-0, but has dropped their last four. Louisville has been inconsistent all season. Eli Holstein being injured and Desmond Reid/running game not being as effective obviously hurts Pittsburgh.
#9 Ole Miss also got beat up by Florida 24-17. Jaxson Dart threw 2 picks and DJ Lagway played well enough to get Florida over the hump. The game was back and forth, but Florida was able to pull it out. Ole Miss has now lost their chance at playing for the SEC championship.
#5 Indiana lost to #2 Ohio State, but it was kind of expected. Indiana built up their team on one offseason, but they still lack depth and the overall talent of a top school like Ohio State. It wasn’t much of a contest. Ohio State won 38-15. Kurtis Rourke did not play well at all throwing for just 68 yards.
Some Interesting Football Stories From This Week
Marshall is a surprising 8-3, despite losses to the portal and graduation. They have gotten solid play at quarterback from Braylon Braxton who transferred over from Tulsa. Of course Mike Green is having a breakout season with 15 sacks already. ECU started the season poorly, but surprisingly is 7-4 at this point. After some changes their offense has taken off. They replaced Garcia at quarterback with Katin Houser and after a couple shaky weeks he’s been really good. With Marshall’s and Louisiana’s win. They are on a crash course for the SunBelt title.
Iowa State is back to winning after losing two in a row. They won 31-28 over Utah. Jayden Higgins tore up Utah for 9 catches, 155 yards and a touchdown.
Washington State lost another one. 38-41 to Oregon State. John Mateer played well, but it wasn’t enough. Their offense struggled. Texas beat Kentucky 31-14. If they beat Texas A&M next week they go to SEC championship. Quintrevion Wisner and Jaydon Blue rush for 264 yards combined.
#4 Penn State beat Minnesota by 1. Tyler Warren was their offense with eight catches for 102 yards and a touchdown. He should get the football on almost every play. #12 Boise State squeaked a win over Wyoming 17-13. Ashton Jeanty still went off, of course. He had 19 carries for 169 yards and one td.
