College football is all about the money. With the dawn of NIL, revenue sharing, and million-dollar TV deals, college football has become an arms race to acquire the best talent by writing the most oversized checks. One team in particular, the USC Trojans, will do almost anything to break off a few extra thousand dollars per game, including offering fans the ability to run out of the tunnel with the team. For the somewhat reasonable price of $1,450 to $1,800, fans can pay to run out onto the field with the Trojans at one of college football’s greatest stadiums, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
With no rules regarding what fans can pay for the opportunity, a visiting Penn State Nittany Lions devotee, USC’s opponent last weekend, took up the school on the possibility of running out onto the field wearing his program’s colors while in a sea of red and gold. College football fans quickly jumped on USC for failing to stop their program from becoming Tuesday’s laughing stock.
USC’s Antics Draws the Ire of College Football Fans
According to Penn State Nittany Lions podcaster Darian Somers:
This is incredible. USC has a thing where you can pay to run out with the team. It costs $1,450-$1,800, depending on the game. There are no rules, so this Penn State fan did it Saturday in PSU gear.
The USC Trojans should be happy they pocked another two grand after they sold the opportunity for a fan to run out of the tunnel and onto the field with the team. However, they are probably disappointed in themselves for not checking the identity of Saturday’s fan, a member of the Penn State faithful. To add insult to injury, Penn State pulled off an upset 33-30 win over USC via a walk-off 36-yard field goal.
Penn State, a team that has long struggled on the road against top competition, received an up-and-down performance from quarterback Drew Allar. The Heisman candidate finished 30-of-43 for 391 yards and two touchdowns but threw three interceptions. However, he made the most of his opportunity, connecting with tight end Tyler Warren for 224 yards and scoring on 17 completions. Meanwhile, USC nearly eclipsed 100 rushing yards, but they were outscored 13-7 from the start of the fourth quarter. College football fans did not take it easy on USC following the video of a Penn State devotee joining the Trojans for their tunnel departure:
How does this not cost significantly more than that? It’s like $10k to be on Michigans sideline during warmups — actually running out of the tunnel?

They've got to raise money somehow for all the buyouts they're paying to ex coaches and ADs.
