The first round of the College Football Playoff didn’t excite many fans over the weekend. All four games were decided by double digits.
The worst performer by far was No. 9 Tennessee, losing 42-17 to No. 8 Ohio State at Ohio Stadium on Saturday night. The Volunteers hurt the SEC’s case that they deserved more teams in the CFP when Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin and ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum tried to pump the conference up after the first three blowouts of the weekend.
Sometimes, that’s just how the postseason works.
Coastal Carolina was embarrassed in their college football bowl game
Coastal Carolina didn’t put up much of a fight against UTSA in the Myrtle Beach Bowl on Monday in front of a crowd of 8,164 people at Brooks Stadium in Conway, South Carolina. The Chanticleers were playing for an opportunity to finish 2024 with a winning record.
Instead, UTSA raced out to a 21-0 halftime lead on Coastal Carolina via two touchdown runs and a six-yard pass from quarterback Owen McCown to tight end Patrick Ovemyer.
UTSA football dominated the Myrtle Beach Bowl
UTSA would extend their lead to 27-0 before the fourth quarter. Coastal Carolina would score 15 fourth-quarter points, but were still outscored 17-15 in the final 15 minutes to lose 44-15 on Monday. The loss dropped the Chanticleers to 6-7 on the season. The program is now 2-2 in bowl games.
UTSA outgained Coastal Carolina 513-271 in total yards. The Roadrunners dominated on the ground, rushing for 257 yards in the win.
Per ESPN BET, UTSA entered the Myrtle Beach Bowl as 13.5-point favorites to knock off Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers came nowhere near beating the spread after a lousy first-half performance.
UTSA improved to 7-6 with the win. They are 2-4 in bowl games.
