Shedeur Sanders has been in a position where he has seemingly been humbled as he went from expecting to be the franchise quarterback for a team to being in a quarterback battle to secure one of the 53 spots on an NFL roster after being selected with the 144th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. It was reported on Wednesday that Sanders recently was cited for going 101 MPH on a 60 MPH road on Tuesday, and this has turned some people sour.
One person who seemingly had an issue with Shedeur Sanders speeding was FS1 radio host Colin Cowherd. Let’s take a look at what he said on his program and how this situation has changed his opinion on the rookie quarterback.
Colin Cowherd Blasts Shedeur Sanders Speeding on Radio Show

While discussing the news regarding Shedeur Sanders speeding after being pulled over for going 101 MPH, Cowherd discussed how this has caused him to look at the quarterback in a different light.
“Mike Tomlin often says two is a trend, can’t screw up 3-4 times, two is a trend. Just two times. I’m not sure I need two times if you’re a young quarterback. One bad judgment turns me off, but I have now in the last couple of months that really turn me off to Shedeur Sanders.”
Below is the full clip that the show posted on their official X (previously Twitter) account.

The situation of Shedeur Sanders speeding has not been publicly addressed by him or the team at the time of this article being published, but it will be interesting to see if this affects his number of reps during the beginning of preseason activities. Sanders was the 2024 Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and holds the NCAA Division I record for completion percentage so he has shown the ability to throw the football accurately.
However, it is a massive leap from college football to the NFL, and he is currently in a quarterback competition with Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and third-round rookie Dillon Gabriel. It will be interesting to see how Shedeur Sanders speeding changes more of the public perception of him being able to become the leader of an NFL team going forward.
