Colin Cowherd is known for his outlandish takes on football and he had another hot one today. The New York Jets still do not officially have Aaron Rodgers though everyone thinks the deal will be done. However, the longer this standoff goes, the more people will question whether the Jets should start looking elsewhere. While others will say they should pivot to Lamar Jackson or inquire about Ryan Tannehill, Cowherd has another idea.

Colin Cowherd On The New York Jets
Cowherd believes the Jets should start Zach Wilson. Not because he thinks they will be good but because he thinks they would be very bad. The 2024 draft has two huge quarterback prospects in USC’s Caleb Williams and North Carolina’s Drake Maye. If the Jets can secure a top-two pick, they could get one of these players and be set for years to come. Here’s the full quote from Colin Cowherd.
“I think the Jets have a great backup plan: start Zach Wilson and go get one of the two great quarterbacks next year. It’s just one year. That’s a great backup plan. Andrew Luck was a can’t-miss. Trevor Lawrence, to me, was a can’t-miss. Caleb Williams, to me, looks pretty close to a can’t-miss. We probably need to see a little more of Drake Maye, but he looks special.”
Caleb Williams is considered to be a generational talent. Maye isn’t seen as quite the lock but still very special. Cowherd thinks the Jets should waste the year as it would set them up for the next twenty.

Half-Baked Plan Or Genius Move?
If the Jets were to do this, it would be a huge gamble. Wasting a year is risky, especially with so many young players on cheap contracts. Garrett Wilson, Sauce Gardner, and many more young players make this roster much more suitable for a proven veteran like Rodgers. However, Rodgers will only be there for a year or two. Then the Jets are back to square one in terms of the quarterback. Getting a prospect like Williams would nail down the position and then the Jets can focus on filling out the roster.
The Jets are going to go the Rodgers route. While this plan seems really interesting, so much can go wrong. We have seen the aging quarterback go to a new team and win a Super Bowl. Both Tom Brady and Peyton Manning won a Super Bowl in the twilight of their careers with new teams. The Jets are hoping they can recreate that magic. Still, this idea is fun to think about.
