Colorado improved the odds of Coach Prime leading his team to the Big 12 Title with a 41-27 win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Saturday leading to a 5-1 record in Big 12 play.
The Iowa State Cyclones who came into this week tied with the Buffaloes for second place, suffered their second straight loss to the Kansas Jayhawks Saturday on the Kansas City Chiefs home field, Arrowhead Stadium. The Buffs are now in sole possession of second place in the Big 12 conference.
The Colorado Buffaloes only trail the Big 12 first-place BYU Cougars, 9-0 and AP rated #7
The Buffs Control Their Destiny
The #18 AP rated Buffs play the Utah Utes, Kansas Jayhawks, and the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the final three games of regular season Big 12 play. Two of the Buffaloes three regular season games will be at home starting next Saturday against the Utah Utes 10am MT with Fox’s “Big Noon Kickoff” appearing in Boulder.
The Utah Utes although their last game against BYU was controversial ending on a holding call, they have lost 5 games in a row after starting 4-0.
The Oklahoma State Cowboys have lost 7 games in a row including all seven Big 12 regular season conference games. The Cowboys are also a pathetic 1-4 on the road so far this season.
The one regular season big 12 league road game left on the schedule for the Colorado Buffaloes is in Lawrence, Kansas at the David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium on November 23rd. This will probably be The Buffaloes toughest remaining regular season test. The Buffaloes should have plenty of success against a Kansas defensive unit that allows an average of 383 yards a game including 233 yards allowed a game in the air. Shedeur Sanders should continue to roll in Lawrence.
The key for Colorado to win out the rest of the way is their improvement this year by their defensive units led by Defensive Coordinator/Safeties coach Rob Livingston, Defensive End coach Vincent Dancy, Defensive Line coach Damione Lewis, Cornerback coach Kevin Mathis, Senior Defensive coach George Helow, and Senior Defensive Quality Control Analyst Warren Sapp, and Defensive Quality Control Analysts Anthony Balancier and Gabe Lynn. The Colorado defense is allowing on average only 22 points per game, and averaging a very miniscule 7 points allowed in the second half of games this season. Colorado is 6th in the nation with 29 sacks, their single season record is 41.
The Buffs also now control their destiny for the Big 12 Title winning out their last three regular-season Big 12 games, and a win in the Big 12 Championship Title game would likely cement a spot for the Buffaloes in the College Football Playoff.
What do you think? Will Coach Prime lead the Colorado Buffaloes football program to a Big 12 Title berth in just his second year as their head coach? Will the Colorado Buffaloes win out their regular season win the Big 12 title game against probably BYU and earn a spot in the College Football Playoff?
