The Cleveland Browns offensive tackle depth took a massive hit in last week’s contest against the New Orleans Saints. Browns right tackle turned left tackle Dawand Jones suffered a season-ending fractured fibula/ankle. Since Jones is out for the season, and the team hosts the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday, there is uncertainty surrounding the starting left tackle.

The Cleveland Browns former first-round pick’s knee flared up recently
Jedrick Wills Jr. will take over as Jameis Winston’s blindside protector, but one problem is his health. Wills has only played five games with four starts because he hasn’t fully recovered from last season’s knee injury. Upon being benched and relegated to the swing tackle role, the Browns ruled him out for last week’s game because his knee flared up.
Although the Browns did not practice on Monday, they were required to put out an injury report and estimated Wills as a non-participant. Kevin Stefanski addressed the media Monday and told reporters that their short week of practice will determine whether he plays against the Steelers.
“We’ll work through that this week to see if Jed can make it to Thursday night,” Stefanski said. “He was full, still feeling that injury, so just felt like it was best to get him some more treatment on that over the weekend.”
Since the Browns’ offensive tackle depth is thin, with only three players on the active roster, they had no choice but to reunite with a familiar face.

Geron Christian Sr. played a significant role last season
Following the season-ending injury to Jedrick Wills Jr., Geron Christian signed to the active roster on November 7. Christian spent the last half of the 2023 season in Cleveland, starting nine regular season games and one playoff game at left tackle, the most important position on the offensive line. After the conclusion of 2023, he reunited with former Browns’ offensive line coach Bill Callahan.
Christian signed with the Tennessee Titans but did not make the 53-man roster. However, the Los Angeles Rams signed him to the practice squad in September. He spent two months with the Rams practice squad.
