As training camp gets underway, the Cleveland Browns and other NFL teams look for a fresh start. This includes getting injured players from last season back such as Browns RB Nick Chubb.
Unfortunately, this may not happen as quickly as the Browns expected. This morning, it was revealed that there was a setback with Chubb. Read below to find out what happened with Chubb and what this means.
Nick Chubb Placed on PUP List
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Browns RB Nick Chubb was placed on the team’s PUP list with a handful of other players as training camp was set to begin. This is a setback for Cleveland because it could mean that Chubb is still dealing with some health issues. However, since he was placed on the PUP list before the start of training camp, he can still be moved to the active roster any time prior to the start of the regular season.
Nick Chubb’s Devastating Injury in 2023
Last season, Chubb suffered one of the most brutal injuries of the season. In Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Chubb took a gruesome hit to the knee that sidelined him for the rest of the season. He ended up tearing his MCL and at the time, the injury was projected to keep him sidelined for at least 6-8 months.
Chubb is not getting any younger. He is going to be 29 years old this season, which can be considered on the older side for a running back. Chubb admitted that recovering from an injury like this took a toll on his mental state. On top of this, he has to come back from a very significant injury that could have arguably been career-ending.
Cleveland Browns Moving Forward
Last season, the Browns had a surprising playoff appearance in spite of Chubb’s injury along with starting QB Deshaun Watson’s injury. Now, both players are hoping to return to their old selves in 2024. The Browns are banking on Watson at quarterback considering Joe Flacco is now with the Indianapolis Colts.
Do the Browns have any other decent options at running back if Chubb is not ready by the beginning of the regular season? For now, they would be forced to choose between Jerome Ford and D’Onta Foreman. We will have to wait and see if it ends up coming down to that for the Cleveland Browns.
