There’s a reason why Myles Garrett is the reigning Defensive Player of the Year and his worth to the Cleveland Browns can’t be overstated. Turns out, an NFL analysis by ESPN has projected the defensive end to make a lot of sacks ahead of the 2024-25 season.
Garrett is on the verge of cementing his legacy as one of the NFL’s all-time great pass rushers. In the 2024 season, Garrett needs just 12 sacks to tie the record set by New York Giants legend Lawrence Taylor.
Taylor is the only other NFL player to record 12 or more sacks per season for five consecutive years. He achieved this feat over the course of his 13-season career, finishing with an astounding 142 career sacks.
Garrett has already established himself as a dominant force, amassing 88.5 career sacks in just seven seasons. The only blemish on his record was a 10-sack season in 2019, which broke up his potential record-setting run. However, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year is poised to make up for that in 2024.
ESPN Drops Cleveland Browns’ Myles Garrett’s Projected Total Sacks for 2024 Season
Like Dallas Cowboys’ Micah Parsons, Garrett is projected to make a lot of sacks ahead of the 2024-25 season. This can be seen in an NFL analysis by Seth Walder for ESPN.
“Projected 2024 sacks: 13.6
ESPN BET over/under: 13.5
2023 sack total: 14.0The reigning Defensive Player of the Year could have easily been No. 1, and the difference here between him and Parsons is tiny. Like Parsons, Garrett is a PRWR stalwart, but he brings a bit more sack production, too (30 over the past two seasons).
But Cleveland’s slightly lower win total in comparison to Dallas, Parsons’ slightly superior PRWRs and Garrett’s age (28) pushed the Cowboys’ pass rusher ahead of Garrett. Both players are nearly perfect in terms of what the forecast seeks — and there’s a big drop after them,” Walder wrote.
If Garrett reaches 100 sacks this season, he will also become the youngest player to achieve that milestone. At just 29 years old, he has the potential to shatter numerous records and cement his place among the NFL’s all-time greats.
With his relentless pass-rushing ability, Garrett has already cemented his status as one of the league’s premier defensive players. Now, he has the opportunity to etch his name in the history books alongside the iconic Lawrence Taylor.
