The Cleveland Browns’ recent victory over the Baltimore Ravens has garnered critique from Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show co-host Jason Lloyd. The Browns pulled off a remarkable win with a final score of 29-24 on Sunday. This victory came as a surprise to the NFL fans, but what made it even more remarkable was quarterback Jameis Winston’s debut.
The veteran QB made his first start on Sunday since 2022, replacing Deshaun Watson, who suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in Week 7.
Jason Lloyd Accuses Team of Deception in Delayed QB Swap: “The team “lied” to everyone”
In a recent show on the Ultimate Cleveland Sports show, Co-host Jason Lloyd criticized the Cleveland Browns for their handling of the quarterback position this season. This critique was particularly regarding Deshaun Watson’s injury that sidelined him to a season-ending injury.
Despite Jameis Winston stepping in and putting up an impressive performance on Sunday, Lloyd Claimed that the team “lied” to the fans about Watson being the best option for the team’s success.
Lloyd stated that the Browns’ committing to Deshaun Watson, despite his struggles, is a misguided attempt to justify his $230 million guaranteed contract, and the decision to stick with Watson contributed to their disappointing record, ultimately sabotaging their playoff.
After seeing Winston’s strong performance, Jason Lloyd is raising questions about why the Cleveland Browns didn’t make the change sooner. Jason believes that had the Cleveland Browns acted earlier, the team could have salvaged their season.
“My thought was really simple — for the last month, the Browns have lied to you. They told you that Deshaun Watson gave this team the best chance to win. You knew it wasn’t true, I knew it wasn’t true, we all knew it wasn’t true, the entire city of Cleveland, the entire franchise knew it wasn’t true, and they still kept running him out there because of the contract.” Jason Lloyd said.
Ah, yes, “The Contract.” The Browns’ decision to give Watson a five-year, $230 million guaranteed contract in 2022 is already regarded as one of the biggest contract mistakes in NFL history. Jason Lloyd, a columnist who covers Cleveland sports for The Athletic, said the Cleveland Browns have been trying to justify that contract, which hurt the team.
“[They were] trying to prove the contract was a valid decision. It wasn’t,” Lloyd said. “We knew that by the end of September. And they wrecked their season; they sabotaged their season to try and prove some sort of point.”

For the reminder of the season, fans and analyst will be waiting to see if the Browns will address the quarterback position and whether they can recover from the missteps that have defined their season.
