The Cleveland Browns are making changes to its staff
The Cleveland Browns waited nearly a month and a half after their season to make a coaching change. The Browns, who did not make the playoffs for the 2022 season, played their final game of the regular season on January 8. The team is now looking to shake things up after a 7-10 season.
According to a statement by the Browns, they parted ways with special teams coordinator Mike Priefer. They thanked Priefer for his services, and head coach Kevin Stefanski released a parting statement:
“I appreciate everything Prief has done for this team in his three seasons as my special teams coordinator, but I have decided to move in another direction in the best interest of our organization. I know this city will forever be grateful for the job he did as acting head coach in our AFC Wildcard win and for all his contributions while leading the Browns special team’s units for the last four seasons. We wish Prief the best with his next opportunity.”

Per Rick Gosselin’s special teams rankings, the Browns finished 18th in special teams last season. Priefer was the Browns’ acting head coach in 2021 when Stefanski tested positive for Covid-19. During that time, the Browns won their playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Priefer has been a special teams coordinator in the NFL since 2006. Before accepting the Cleveland Browns job, he spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos, and Minnesota Vikings.
Per Mike Garafolo with the NFL Network, the Browns wanted to make the move to interview former Browns player Bubba Ventrone. He is the Indianapolis Colts special teams coordinator.
As of this earlier morning, the #Browns we’re waiting for a green light from the #Colts here. Bubba Ventrone has a few options on the table. https://t.co/41kvTxGBuN
