Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson has been invisible since joining the team in 2022. Watson has only appeared in 12 games since being acquired two years ago, and when he has been on the field, it hasn’t gone well.
Watson’s 2023 season was cut short in mid-November when he suffered a shoulder injury that required season-ending surgery.
The 28-year-old quarterback seems to have recovered from his injury and is expected to start in the opener against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, September 8th.
While many teams still fear the former Clemson quarterback, some players around the league don’t have the same feeling, and they even voted for him as one of the most overrated quarterbacks in the NFL.
Cleveland Browns Deshaun Watson Voted Overrated Among NFL Players
ESPN surveyed 103 NFL players in six different categories on who they think are the top three current quarterbacks: a rookie quarterback who will have the most successful career, the most overrated quarterback, the most underrated quarterback, and the biggest trash-talking quarterback.
The Buffalo Bills’ starting quarterback, Josh Allen, received the most votes among his peers for being the most overrated quarterback in the league. Deshaun Watson came in a few spots below him.
Watson should be rated the number one overrated quarterback in the NFL since he has one of the biggest contracts by a quarterback and has yet to play more than six games in a season in the last two years. He can even go back to 2021, when he missed the entire season with the Houston Texans.
The Cleveland Browns traded for Watson so he could come in and bring them to the playoffs, win postseason games, and hopefully win a Super Bowl, but he has shown no signs of being able to do that.
At least Josh Allen is available for every game the team plays, and he makes it to the playoffs every single season. Watson can’t even sniff the playoffs because he can’t stay on the field.
Watson can prove everyone wrong this season by staying on the field and having a great season, but that’s a lot to ask for since Watson hasn’t been able to do that in three years.
Hopefully, Watson will figure it out this season and take the Cleveland Browns to places they have never been.
