The Cleveland Browns have long been searching for a long-term franchise quarterback. Not long ago, they likely had one in Baker Mayfield, but chose to move on from him too quick.
Over the last two years, the Browns have been regretting that decision even more. Mayfield has turned into an absolute star with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and has become a quarterback that they view as their franchise guy.
Mayfield had shown flashes of superstar ability during his time with the Browns. Unfortunately, he dealt with some injury issues and consistency problems that made the team lose faith in him.
With that being said, Cleveland has now been called out by Mayfield.
Cleveland Browns Receive Brutal Callout From Baker Mayfield Before 2025 Season
During an appearance on the “New Heights Podcast” with Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce, Mayfield was asked about the Browns’ quarterback situation. He responded with some shade being thrown at Cleveland.
“Listen, I plead the fifth,” Mayfield said. “When I was healthy, I was starting to get pretty damn good there. Not my problem anymore.”

He’s not wrong. The team decided to give up on him and now that has fed him with extra motivation.
Last season, Mayfield put up huge numbers for the Buccaneers. He completed 71.4 percent of his pass attempts for 4,500 yards, 41 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions.
While he could cut down on his turnover number, Mayfield was elite. He led Tampa Bay to the playoffs. As for the Browns, they missed the playoffs and were one of the worst teams in football and are now stuck with Deshaun Watson for two more years on huge money who isn’t likely to play.
Very few things have gone right for Cleveland in recent history. Moving on from Mayfield is one of the big mistakes that remain haunting for the Browns.
