The Cleveland Browns decided to keep four quarterbacks on the roster for the upcoming 2024 NFL season. Cleveland could very well trade quarterback Jameis Winston to another team, but it will be interesting to see if they do or not because of how injury-riddled Deshaun Watson has been lately.
The Browns should be one of the best teams in the NFL this season with the defense they have. Cleveland plays in a very tough AFC North Division.
Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay Makes Ridiculous Trade Proposal With the Cleveland Browns
Bleacher Report writer Alex Kay thinks that one NFL team should make a trade before the start of the 2024 season. For the Cleveland Browns, he thinks that they should trade Amari Cooper, a 2025 first-round pick, and a 2025 fourth-round pick to the Cincinnati Bengals for Ja’Marr Chase. First of all, the Bengals and the Browns would never make a trade with each other. This is what Kay had to say about his mock proposal:
“Despite making several trades to improve the receiver room in the last year, the Cleveland Browns still need some help in this department. With an aging Amari Cooper leading a group that also features a pair of polarizing pass-catchers in Elijah Moore and Jerry Jeudy, there’s plenty of questions surrounding this unit heading into 2024.
While the Browns hoped to land a bona fide star in Brandon Aiyuk, the team was rebuffed by the San Francisco 49ers wideout and left to continue its search elsewhere. While it won’t be easy to find a star-caliber receiver at this point, the Browns still have at least one option to go all-in for.
With the in-state rival Cincinnati Bengals struggling to come to terms on a contract extension for Ja’Marr Chase—who has been holding in during training camp while waiting for a new deal—the Browns could swoop in with a massive offer for the three-time Pro Bowler.
Chase certainly won’t come cheap in terms of compensation to a divisional rival and will command an extension in the same neighborhood as the record-setting one Justin Jefferson received from the Minnesota Vikings, but he’d instantly transform Cleveland’s receiver room into one of the league’s best.
The Browns are no stranger to making these types of splashy moves—having executed a similar blockbuster trade to get Deshaun Watson before giving him a monster contract in 2021—and could shake up the final week of the offseason with another one.”
The Cleveland Browns going after wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk with the San Francisco 49ers would make way more sense than going for Ja’Marr Chase. With less than two weeks to go until the start of the NFL regular season, it is still unclear what is going to happen with Aiyuk and the 49ers. He still could get traded to another team or still sign a contract with the San Francisco 49ers.
Yes, Chase did miss practice this offseason with the Bengals because he wants a new contract, but he has reported to practice recently. Ja’Marr Chase and Cincinnati need to agree on a long-term deal soon to help out quarterback Joe Burrow.
Browns Don’t Need To Make This Move
The Browns receiving core of Amari Cooper, Elijah Moore, and Jerry Jeudy is still one of the better cores in the NFL. Swapping out Amari Cooper for Ja’Marr Chase would be ideal for the Cleveland Browns, but it is not realistic by any means.
Cleveland can very well win the AFC North division this season for the first time in a long time. The biggest question with the Cleveland Browns this season is not the wide receiver position. The biggest question is the health of quarterback Deshaun Watson.
