The Clemson Tigers were able to have a great 2024 season as the team made the College Football Playoff as the last team in the 12-team bracket and lost in the first round to the Texas Longhorns. However, the team has a lot of talent returning to the team and one college football analyst is putting hefty expectations on the 2025 program.

On a recent edition of Always College Football, ESPN College Football Analyst Greg McElroy discussed how he has massive expectations for the 2025 Clemson Tigers.

“The expectations are sky high. It feels like 2025 has been the year that they’ve circled for quite some time. They have veterans in pivotal places. They even got to the portal in a couple spots to reinforce some places that had some depth issues from a year ago. It all starts, though, with Cade Klubnik. Great year in 2024 after what was kind of a learning-curve year in ’23. It feels like he’s poised to take the next step. I think you can make a strong argument that he’s the best quarterback returning to college football.”

However, McElroy is also buying into the changes on the defensive side as the program hired former Indiana Hoosiers coach Tom Allen as its defensive coordinator.

“The defense in the front seven should be outstanding. It’s been really good for a long time – should come as no surprise. I absolutely love the defensive coordinator hire of Tom Allen. Tom Allen was at Penn State last year. He’s aggressive. He’s disciplined. They can do a lot of different things. When you watch Tom Allen in the past, everywhere he’s been, whether it was at Indiana, at Penn State – even as a coordinator, prior to becoming a head coach – his guys have always played outrageously hard for him.”

McElroy is not the only person putting lofty expectations on the Tigers this season as ESPN’s Mark Schlabach released his preseason top 25 rankings in May and placed Clemson second in the country, only behind the Penn State Nittany Lions. It will be interesting to see how they look this season.
