CJ Stroud is one of the top quarterbacks in the 2023 NFL draft. For a time, he was the favorite to go number one overall. Now, he is falling down draft boards. While there have been some phony reports coming out trying to smear him, one report brings up a real concern. CJ Stroud failed the S2 cognitive test and that has front offices concerned.

CJ Stroud Fails Cognitive Test
Bob McGinn, who has been covering the draft for years, talked about the S2 cognitive test in a recent article. While the test isn’t a guarantee on anything, it does have a pattern of predicting which players will play well and which won’t.
“The S2 people will say, ‘Hey, guys that graded high on this test don’t always play well,’” one club executive said, “’But, we’ve never had somebody grade low and play well.’”
Never has someone graded low and played well. This is what makes Stroud’s performance so alarming. He reportedly scored an 18%. Saying that isn’t great is putting it nicely. That is an abysmal performance for a quarterback prospect and this is a red alert for GMs.
“Stroud scored 18,” an executive said. “That is like red alert, red alert, you can’t take a guy like that. That is why I have Stroud as a bust. That in conjunction with the fact, name one Ohio State quarterback that’s ever done it in the league.”
This is a real reason why teams might pass on Stroud. Other quarterbacks in the class have scored significantly higher and most GMs would feel better taking a swing on one of those.
Will Stroud Fall?
It is hard to see him falling out of the top ten. There are so many quarterback-needy teams that it seems unlikely that some team wouldn’t take a swing especially if he falls to them. The Las Vegas Raiders and Stroud have shown mutual interest in each other so it would not be shocking if the team took him at seven. He will definitely have something to prove as many teams are taking him off the draft board due to his poor cognitive scores and the history of Ohio State quarterbacks.
The NFL draft is never void of drama. This year especially has many tantalizing storylines that fans have to keep an eye on. The draft is a week away and it is shaping up to be a can’t-miss event for any football fan.
