The Miami Dolphins were reportedly interested in bringing in a different quarter a few weeks ago when Tua Tagovailoa went on injured reserve for a concussion he suffered in Week 2. The injury caused the Dolphins to add a couple of quarterbacks after backup quarterback Skylar Thompson suffered an injury in Week 3.
The Miami Dolphins added two QBs this season

The Dolphins added Tim Boyle and Tyler Huntley this season. Huntley started in three games for Miami, throwing for 377 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Tim Boyle played in two games, throwing for 153 yards.
The Dolphins were 1-1 after their loss in Week 2 to the Buffalo Bills. Miami is now 2-4 after losing Tua to injured reserve. One has to wonder what the team’s record would have been in Week 8 had the Dolphins been more aggressive in adding a talented backup quarterback to keep the team better in contention for a wild card spot until Tua could return.
The Dolphins wanted to add C.J. Beathard

Per Omar Kelly with the Miami Herald, head coach Mike McDaniel initially showed interest in signing veteran quarterback C.J. Beathard before settling for Boyle:
“Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel admitted Miami reached out to CJ Beathard when he received and injury settlement from the Jaguars for a groin injury, but he wasn’t ready to return then,” Kelly posted on X. “So Miami signed Tim Boyle back in September.”

Beathard has a 3-10 record in the league as a starter. He’s 291-497 passing for 19 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in his NFL career. While Beathard wouldn’t have been as sexy as say adding Ryan Tannehill, the former third-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers would have been an improvement over Boyle. Beathard was on the 49ers when McDaniel was an assistant in San Francisco.
Fortunately for the Dolphins, their games without Tua are done–at least for now. Tua is preparing to make his return to the field when Miami takes on the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
