The Cincinnati Bengals re-sign a safety
The Cincinnati Bengals are getting a few positions squared away ahead of the 2023 free agency period on Wednesday. The Bengals have made a few critical decisions for the defense before free agency. The team signed a linebacker and decided not to apply the franchise tag to safety Jessie Bates. The team will keep another safety on for the 2023 campaign.
According to a statement by the Bengals, the team is keeping Michael J. Thomas for 2023 after signing him to a one-year deal.

Thomas is a veteran safety who has been in the league since he was signed as an undrafted free agent with the San Francisco 49ers in 2012. He has been with the Bengals since the 2021 season. Thomas made 12 total tackles on defense for his 25 snaps in 2022. He’s had a more significant role on the Bengals’ special teams, as he played in 289 special teams snaps last season.
