Before the season started, everyone expected the Cincinnati Bengals to put up a good fight during the first few weeks of their campaign. But after enduring a 0-3 run, the Joe Burrow-led team has now fallen further in the latest NFL power rankings.
The Bengals are facing a challenging start to the 2024 season, currently sitting at 0-3. Burrow, who has been dealing with a lingering calf injury, has struggled to find his rhythm, contributing to the team’s dismal performance. Despite high expectations following their Super Bowl appearance two seasons ago, the Bengals have failed to secure a win against division rivals and have shown significant weaknesses on both offense and defense.

Burrow’s difficulties in executing plays have been evident, as he has failed to connect consistently with key targets like Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. The offensive line has also struggled, allowing too much pressure, which has compounded Burrow’s challenges. Coach Zac Taylor faces mounting pressure to turn things around quickly, as the team’s playoff hopes hang in the balance.
The Bengals’ defensive unit, once a stronghold, has also shown vulnerabilities, allowing opponents to exploit gaps that were previously well-guarded. This combination of offensive struggles and defensive lapses has left fans and analysts questioning the team’s direction.
Cincinnati Bengals Fall Further in ESPN’s NFL Power Rankings After 0-3 Start

Last week, the Bengals were holding the 18th spot in ESPN’s power rankings. In an NFL analysis by Ben Baby, the team has now fallen to 25th place after going winless this season.
“The Bengals threw the ball as much as anyone through the first two weeks of the season. They were second in the league in designed pass plays (70.4%), according to ESPN Research. However, they ranked 26th in the league in expected points added per dropback and 24th in yards per dropback.
Either the Bengals need to be more efficient in their passing game or perhaps find a better way to incorporate the run game. Cincinnati’s 58 rush attempts by its running backs are the second fewest in the league after Week 3,” Baby wrote.
As they prepare for their next matchup, the Bengals must address these issues urgently. Burrow’s health is a primary concern, and his ability to play effectively will be crucial for any turnaround.

The upcoming games will be pivotal; the team must rally to avoid further disappointment and reignite hope for the season. If the Bengals can regroup and find their footing, they still have time to salvage the year and aim for a playoff push. However, the clock is ticking.
