The Cincinnati Bengals broke the bank and reset the wide receiver market, signing Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins to record-setting contract extensions this week.
Chase becomes the highest-paid wide receiver in league history, with a market-setting four-year deal worth $160 million, while no No. 2 receiver in the sport has ever made more than Higgins’ $115 over the next four seasons.
Signing Chase and Higgins to their mega-deals comes after two offseasons’ worth of negotiations, including twice applying the franchise tag to Higgins.

One day after making a mega-commitment, Bengals owner Mike Brown opened up about why Cincinnati was intent on keeping two of quarterback Joe Burrow’s most explosive and reliable weapons in the fold for years to come.
“Ja’Marr and Tee have proven they are outstanding wide receivers. Together with Joe Burrow, we have a very potent offense,” Bengals owner Mike Brown said in a statement. “That gives us a foundation to win games. It’s hard to cover both of them. Ja’Marr is gifted. He makes exceptional plays. I just look at the plays he makes and marvel. Tee has a great catch radius. He makes plays that stand out in your memory. We are fortunate to have this pair of receivers.”
Combined, Higgins and Chase have accounted for 10,020 yards and 80 touchdowns, and their new contracts ensure that they’ll remain mainstays in Burrow’s arsenal for years to come.
