The Cincinnati Bengals lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 26-25 on Sunday. With the loss, Zac Taylor has his team in another 0-2 hole to start the 2024 season. The Bengals are in a must-win game on Monday night football at home against the Washington Commanders.
Cincinnati will have high expectations every season as long as Joe Burrow is the quarterback and Ja’Marr Chase as the wide receiver amongst other things. The Cincinnati Bengals fanbase has to be tired about the slow starts.
CBS Sports Jeff Kerr Thinks That the Cincinnati Bengals Could Fire Head Coach Zac Taylor Mid-Season If They Don’t Turn It Around
CBS Sports writer Jeff Kerr did some overreactions and some reality check takes after the Week 2 games for the 2024 NFL season. He thinks that it is not an overaction about Bengals head coach Zac Taylor being fired potentially during the 2024 NFL season. Kerr said:
“Another 0-2 start for the Bengals, which has become the norm under Taylor. The Bengals have lost seven straight games in Weeks 1 and 2, yet have somehow overcome the slow starts and finished with winning records in each of the last two seasons. Taylor and the Bengals have been playing with fire, and eventually they are going to get burned.
If Cincinnati misses the playoffs this season, will Taylor survive? After going to the AFC Championship game in 2021 and 2022, missing the playoffs in consecutive years would be a massive setback for the franchise. Burrow had a relatively healthy camp and is healthy enough to have an impact on games. The mistakes the Bengals make are too costly to survive in a loaded AFC North and a tough AFC.
Taylor may not be around much longer if the Bengals can’t turn things around this year. “
Zac Taylor is in his sixth season as the Cincinnati Bengals head coach. His record is 37-46-1 with a .446 winning percentage. This includes the year they went to the Super Bowl and lost to the Los Angeles Rams and also when they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game the following season.
Winnable Division
The only thing that may not get Zac Taylor fired until the end of the season is the trajectory of the AFC North division. The Pittsburgh Steelers are 2-0 and the Cleveland Browns are 1-1. Also, the Cincinnati Bengals and the Baltimore Ravens are 0-2, but both teams could bounce back later this season.
Cincinnati could be in the playoff race late in the season. They missed the playoffs last season with a 9-8 record and that was because Joe Burrow got hurt, but Jake Browning was good for them. Browning’s success was the reason why Brian Callahan took the Tennessee Titans head coach job to try and fix Will Levis.
Callahan was the Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator a season ago. Zac Taylor won’t get fired if they are back in the race or if they win the division. If things go south for them this season, it is possible Taylor will be let go and maybe offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher will become the interim coach for the time being.
