Over the course of the past offseason, the Cincinnati Bengals have worked hard to finally update their offensive line. After all, when you lose your starting quarterback for two of the past three seasons to season-ending injuries, you really have to invest more in his protection. Last season, the organization made the decision to bring in former Super Bowl Champion offensive tackle Trent Brown to patch the struggling right tackle position.
Cincinnati Bengals to Lack Depth Against Patriots After Critical Injury
On top of Brown, Cincinnati invested heavily in youth by drafting University of Georgia right tackle Amarius Mims with the 18th overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft. With remarkable size standing in at 6’8″ and 340 pounds, Mims is expected to be the future at the right tackle position but his biggest liability has been health.
It appears that health is going to be an issue for Mims again after a sprained pectoral muscle will officially have him listed as out for his first regular season game as a professional. Even though Taylor recently announced that Brown would start regardless, Mims would have been an excellent option for goalline situations and as a swing tackle in case of injuries. Considering that Brown has a serious issue with health, there is a strong possibility that he would be needed by the end of the week one matchup.

The injury shouldn’t be significant and the team expects Mims to return to health quickly after one or two games as an injured bystander. If Brown fails to impress in his first few games with Cincinnati, there is a good chance that the team will turn to their rookie option to develop quickly in 2024.
