Since the salary cap struggles began to tighten on the Cincinnati Bengals, depth has become an incredibly important part of the team building process in Cincinnati. Unfortunately, that depth is already being tested after injuries to star players such as Sam Hubbard and Trey Hendrickson have hampered their availability early in training camp. If Cincinnati wants to make a serious run this season, they’ll need to get their key players healthy so that they can properly prepare for the season during the training camp window.
Cincinnati Bengals Offensive Tackle Injury Sparks Concern Amongst Fans
While injuries to Hendrickson and Hubbard are significant, neither is as significant as the injury to offensive tackle Amarius Mims on Thursday. Mims was carted to the locker room and was seen applying cool compresses to his thighs.

After speculative reports assumed the worst, it was revealed that Mims had simply suffered from heat-related fatigue after practicing on a particularly hot day in Cincinnati. Mims returned to practice on Friday and appeared to show no limitations.
While it appears there isn’t a long-term injury concern with Mims’ injury on Friday, there should certainly be a concern amongst the coaching staff that their promising offensive tackle wasn’t able to last through the heat. After playing at the University of Georgia, one would think that Mims would be used to playing in substantial heat and there will certainly be some toasty games at Paul Brown Stadium early in the season.
It is likely that this is an isolated incident but there is a possibility that the situation could indicate durability issues with Mims. After all, his inability to stay healthy during his season was his biggest liability during the NFL Draft.
While Mims shows no signs of missing additional practice time, any additional indications of subpar durability could be a red flag to the organization particularly after the team placed Trent Brown on the inactive list heading into training camp. Brown was brought in to provide a reliable right tackle on the Cincinnati offensive line but his work ethic has come into question over the course of his career. The organization has yet to provide more details regarding Brown’s injury status.
