Christian McCaffrey’s father, Ed McCaffrey, recently spoke out on his son’s longevity in the National Football League as a running back. The senior McCaffrey who won three Super Bowl rings in his football career before retiring in 2003, discussed the lifespan of running backs in the league, including that of his own son who has been playing since 2017.
Ed McCaffrey also discussed the role that his daughter-in-law currently plays in his son’s health and performance, revealing that she clearly understands his schedule and makes sure he never misses a workout or treatment.
“Longevity (concerns at running back) are way overblown. If you look back to some of the running backs that have been great running backs in this league, some of them played for 15 years. Emmitt Smith played what, 15 years? And a lot of really great running backs played 12, 13 years.” Ed McCaffrey spoke about his son, Christian McCaffrey, in his recent interview with SportsCasting.
Christian McCaffrey’s father also spoke about several other topics, including his latest line of protein bites. The senior McCaffrey seems to be a big fan of snacking and food in general and spent plenty of time researching manufacturers who can make tasty, healthy and filling snacks that he himself can munch on.

Meanwhile, the San Francisco 49ers running back is gearing up for another season with his team. In the previous football season, McCaffrey had to sit out many games after a knee injury. However, after undergoing extensive treatment and rehab for the same, McCaffrey seems to be in proper shape to play in this upcoming season.

Christian McCaffrey Is Avoiding Over-Training For This Season
In the same interview, Christian McCaffrey’s father, Ed McCaffrey, also spilled plenty of tea about his son’s current workout regime. While the young running back has been known in the past to train extensively, it seems like he is taking his time to avoid over-training and burnout this year.
“He’s patient this year. Last year, he was really eager to get to the field after they lost the Super Bowl. He couldn’t wait to play again and probably over-trained a little bit going into training camp. But this year he’s got a great plan.” Ed McCaffrey revealed in his interview.

Christian McCaffrey is definitely desperate to win a Lombardi trophy with his team, having not yet won a Super Bowl ring in his career. The 49ers will be kicking off their 2025 campaign with a matchup against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1.
