On Sunday evening, the New England Patriots announced troubling news for one of their star players on defense. They will miss time at training camp (and maybe even more time) due to a medical complication.
Christian Barmore, a defensive tackle, has been absent in the previous few practices. It was unclear at the time why he had missed practice.
The New England Patriots made an announcement
Per a statement by the Patriots, he was diagnosed with blood clots and is currently being treated for the condition:
“He was appropriately treated by the doctors at Mass General Brigham, who tested, evaluated and treated Christian. Our principal concern at this time is Christian’s health and wellbeing.
Fortunately, Mass General Brigham provides some of the best healthcare in the world. While there is no current timetable for his return, we know Christian is getting tremendous care and we look forward to his full recovery.”
Christian Barmore signed a huge contract in April
The Patriots were expecting big things from Barmore this season after they extended his contract in April. He’s to make $92 million, of which $41.8 million is guaranteed. The signing was the largest non-Tom Brady contract in the Patriots history.
Barmore had an incredible 2023 season for the Patriots. He recorded 8.5 sacks and 64 total tackles.
All that matters now is that Barmore is able to complete a full recovery before worrying about playing football again.
