Former NFL Defensive End Chris Smith passed away at 31 years old, according to Agent Drew Rosenhaus. Rosenhaus shared the news Tuesday.
Smith’s cause of death wasn’t announced.
Smith was a member of the Seattle Sea Dragons in the XFL.
Smith played in the NFL for eight seasons. Smith played for Jacksonville Jaguars, Cincinnati Bengals, Las Vegas Raiders and Houston Texans. Smith recorded 11 sacks in his career.
The Cleveland Browns released a statement following Smith’s death.
We are deeply saddened by the passing of former Browns DE Chris Smith.

Smith’s death is tragic and heartbreaking. Smith’s girlfriend died during the 2018 season. Smith’s girlfriend was killed by a truck driver when she exited Smith’s vehicle. Smith leaves behind three children.
