It is hopeful that Chris Godwin can make a full recovery and return for week one of the NFL season. Godwin tore his ACL in week fifteen of the 2021 season against the Saints and was out the rest of the year. Godwin is the team’s second leading receiver behind Mike Evans and a reliable target in crunch time. Since 2019, he has averaged 81.9 yards receiving a game ranking fourth in the NFL. He also ranks as high as third and fourth in yards after catch and twenty plus yard completions.

An ACL tear is never an easy injury, but Godwin has been making strides since the injury and could be back much sooner than expected.  It was also reported that Godwin is ahead of schedule. Buccaneers receiver Cyril Grayson Jr. said he heard Godwin, “ran 19 miles an hour the other day.” That is pretty darn fast if you ask anyone and quite impressive a couple of months after an injury like that.

A record setting year for Godwin?

Godwin should have a big year coming off of his injury. Before the injury, he was having a great year with 98 receptions for 1,103 yards. His best year receiving was the 2019 season when he had 86 receptions for 1,333 yards. Godwin was sure on pace to eclipse that season until the injury. 2022 will be a big year for Godwin to try and eclipse all of his other seasons to date.

The Buccaneers are hopeful to make it back to the Super Bowl after winning it two years ago. The Bucs fell just short last year after losing to the Rams in the divisional round. Godwin will need to have a big year along with Mike Evans and Russell Gage to make it possible. Also, with the signing of Kyle Rudolph, expectations have become even higher. It will be exciting to watch and see where they could possibly go and if they can reach their full potential.
