The Kansas City Chiefs will be on a mission this year to try to take back the Lombardi Trophy.  They fell one game shy of the first ever three-peat in the Super Bowl era.  Patrick Mahomes has been at the center of that success just shy of the last decade.

Now he’s excited for a different kind of move.

In their boldest move of the season, the Kansas City Royals have drawn the attention of one of the city’s biggest star. After the Royals called up top prospect Jac Caglianone to the majors, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes posted a six-word message on social media:

Mahomes shared a popular meme from the sitcom The Office – “Oh my god! Okay, it’s happening!” after the team’s announcement. The Royals announced the promotion of a 22-year-old two-way slugger, who has been tearing up the minor leagues this season.

Caglianone, who has been compared to Shohei Ohtani for his two-way potential, is expected to bring instant power to a Royals lineup that has been struggling to score consistently.

The left-handed slugger is hitting .322 with 15 home runs and 56 RBIs through 50 games across Double-A and Triple-A. Scouts have raved about his raw power and mature approach at the plate. While his pitching role remains uncertain at the big-league level, his bat alone makes him a potential franchise changer.

The video of him finding out about the call-up from Omaha Storm Chasers manager Mike Jirschele went viral on Monday.

“I need to call my dad,“ Caglianone said, still in disbelief.

As for Mahomes, the superstar quarterback is deep into offseason prep with the Kansas City Chiefs, eyeing a third Super Bowl title in four years.
