Even though the Kansas City Chiefs share the best record in the NFL with the Detroit Lions, they aren’t projected as the top team in the league for some people. For his part, sports analyst Skip Bayless backed this claim by saying nobody is scared of the Patrick Mahomes-led franchise anymore.
The Chiefs secured their ninth consecutive AFC West title with a close 19-17 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. The win, marked by a dramatic last-minute field goal from third-string kicker Matthew Wright, shed light the team’s resilience in a season characterized by tight finishes. Wright, stepping in for injured kickers, made the crucial 31-yard kick as time expired, sealing the game and further establishing the Kansas City’s dominance in the division.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes emphasized the importance of claiming the division title. He noted the competitive nature of the AFC West, where multiple teams are vying for playoff spots. This victory not only clinched the division but also set the stage for their pursuit of the No. 1 playoff seed for the team.
Head coach Andy Reid praised the achievement, recognizing the hard-fought nature of this year’s championship. He acknowledged that each season presents unique challenges, and this year’s close games have tested the team’s resolve. Kansas City has shown remarkable grit, winning six games this season by a narrow margin.
Wright’s game-winning kick was particularly notable, as it ricocheted off the left upright before going through. Reid humorously advised him to aim more to the right next time, but he also expressed gratitude for Wright’s contributions during his brief tenure with the team.
Skip Bayless Drops Warning for Kansas City Chiefs Despite Their Week 14 Win
Even though Kansas City won over the Chargers by a hair, Bayless still thinks that the team isn’t as infallible as before. This can be seen in a tweet he posted on his official X account.
“Celebrate now, Chiefs. But nobody is scared of Arrowhead any more. Borrowed time,” the sports analyst tweeted.
Bayless has issued a cautionary message to the team, particularly targeting Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, following their narrow victory over the Chargers. Despite maintaining a perfect home record, Bayless emphasized that Arrowhead Stadium no longer instills fear in opponents.
He expressed concern that Kansas City might be exhausting their luck during the regular season. As Mahomes struggles statistically, the team sits at 12-1 and prepares for a crucial matchup against the Browns. The Chiefs must address these concerns to sustain their success as they head toward the playoffs.
