The Kansas City Chiefs have been the most successful franchise in the NFL over the last decade. Their three Super Bowl victories coupled with their numerous AFC Championship appearances have solidified their Patrick Mahomes-Andy Reid dynasty.
However, their Mayor just made a massive announcement about their future in the city.

A deadline of June 30 is just six days away, and the Chiefs will have to decide between renovating Arrowhead Stadium or accepting a move to Kansas and paying for a new dome stadium:
KC mayor Quinton Lucas is confident that the franchise will remain in Missouri to do its $1.15 billion renovation project — even if it’s taking a little longer than some fans would have liked.
“I’ve had optimism all the time, and I think there are more and more reasons for that,” Lucas told The Kansas City Star. “I said [last summer] that I believe we’d have a compelling Missouri state offer. We’ve gotten to that. It took a little longer than perhaps some would have wanted. I think the local government conversation is something that continues to proceed, as well.”
According to Lucas, the state’s final offer for Arrowhead’s renovation likely won’t be done in time for the Chiefs’ upcoming deadline. But he still feels good about the team calling their Kansas City home for many years to come.
“I frankly continue to hope that we have it resolved sooner rather than later,” Lucas said. “The June 30 deadline set up by the state of Kansas may be a little tough for us, but we’re going to make sure that we have a compelling offer to both [the Chiefs and Royals] in that time.”
“Kansas City, and the state of Missouri, is where they need to be. In terms of where the offers are, I think it will be on the teams to decide how quickly they want to proceed. Kansas City, Missouri has made sense for 50 plus years,” the mayor concluded. “It will continue to do so.”
Time will tell if that’ll end up being the case. But the Chiefs are certainly in a tough position having to choose between their iconic past and a potentially more prosperous future.
