During the upcoming free agency period the Kansas City Chiefs show clear signs of wanting to retain wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown on their team. General manager Brett Veach confirmed at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine that the Chiefs want to retain Brown for future seasons because they want to keep offense strong around Patrick Mahomes.

Brown underwent a sternoclavicular joint injury in the preseason which resulted in his absence from all 15 weeks of the 2024 NFL season when he was 28 years old. The few games where he received playing time showcased his talents when he achieved nine receptions for a total of 91 yards during regular season games and three catches for 50 yards in playoff matches. Kansas City recognizes Brown’s exceptional speed as their offensive base and plans to pair him with Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy for their upcoming season.
The Patriots Loom as a Serious Suitor for Hollywood Brown
The Chiefs strongly desire to retain Hollywood Brown but the New England Patriots have turned into an attractive acquisition target. The Patriots plan to spend significant free agency funds to build their wide receiver unit which will support their young quarterback Drake Maye. Multiple sources have identified New England as a team that is strongly pursuing Brown because of his ability in extending defenses for big plays.
The New England Patriots first looked at Tee Higgins but the influx of Brown at a lower price point makes him stand out as a better choice. Hollywood Brown demonstrated his worth as a playmaking receiver before his injury-filled last season although he managed to reach the 1,000-yard mark during a previous season. Joining the Patriots would allow him to become an important part of an offensive unit seeking both speed and playmaking ability.
What’s Next for Hollywood Brown?
With the Chiefs having to decide what to do with their cap situation, retaining Hollywood Brown would be necessary if they want to keep top talent around Mahomes. If Kansas City can do that deal, Hollywood Brown’s return will complete an already excellent offense. But it was also said that, if the Patriots or some other team comes in with a strong offer, the Chiefs may be forced to look elsewhere.
Brown’s market will take shape soon, once free agency starts on March 12, and his next move will be important for both the Chiefs and the Patriots.
