The Kansas City Chiefs have all the confidence in the world to be the first NFL team to three-peat since the 1960s. Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid have lit the league on fire for years now.
Now the Chiefs could be getting even more of a boost via the Dallas Cowboys’ misfortunes.
The Kansas City Chiefs May Be Benefiting From The Dallas Cowboys
This summer, the Chiefs have had their fair share of highs and lows at cornerback between recent draft picks, UDFA finds, and reclamation projects. However, Kelvin Joseph’s comeback story has been one of the more positive developments:
“The fact that [Joseph] started the [final preseason] game opposite Jaylen Watson speaks volumes about how defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo may feel about him,” Arrowhead Pride beat reporter Pete Sweeney wrote after the summer finale against the Chicago Bears.
“The Dallas Cowboys’ former second-round pick produced a one-on-one pass breakup against wide receiver Nsimba Webster… [and] got the job done down the right sideline,” Sweeney continued later. “Joseph finished with the breakup and five tackles on the evening.”
He also noted that “given the injury status of Johnson and Williams, the Chiefs will likely need to keep six cornerbacks — and Joseph seems to be trending in the right direction to be the pick.”
Joseph has had a bumpy start to his career. In his rookie season, he played in 10 games but suffered from injuries and inconsistent play. Despite a similar workload in 2022, he surrendered a 147.9 passer rating when targeted in coverage. As a result, the former Kentucky standout was traded to the Miami Dolphins prior to last season. The former Miami Dolphin played four games before joining the Seattle Seahawks, where he lasted one game before signing with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Could Joseph have found himself a real spot on the Chiefs roster?
