The Chicago Bears have been busy securing assets this offseason. Recently, they locked up both of their first-round draft picks in WR Rome Odunze and QB Caleb Williams. Now that the top rookies have been taken care of, the Bears have now moved on to their veteran skill players. As a result, WR D.J. Moore is about to cash in on a historic payday.
D.J. Moore Gets 4-Year Contract Extension Worth $110 Million
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Chicago Bears and WR D.J. Moore have agreed to a massive contract extension. This extension is worth $110 million over the next four years. Of that $110 million, about $82 million of that money is guaranteed.
Moore made history here for multiple reasons. For starters, this is the largest contract given out in Bears franchise history. On top of this, the contract extension will allow the first 10 years of Moore’s career to have guaranteed money. It is the first time in NFL history a wide receiver has been able to achieve this.
How D.J. Moore Got Here
There has to be a good reason why Moore is the first wide receiver in NFL history to get the first 10 years of his career. It helps that Moore is coming off the best statistical season of his NFL career. So, what did he do in 2023? He had 1,364 receiving yards and eight touchdown receptions.
Moore has played six seasons in the NFL. In that time, he has 6,565 receiving yards and 29 touchdown receptions. Moore spent his first five seasons with the Carolina Panthers before being traded to the Chicago Bears as part of the package for the top overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. It is safe to say this deal has worked out great for Moore and the Bears.
Chicago Bears Moving Forward
The Bears have made some drastic changes this offseason to try to compete for a playoff spot in the 2024 season. It was clear one thing they did not have to change was D.J. Moore being a top wide receiver for them. Now, there is more long-term security for Moore at that position.
This could also give rookie QB Caleb Williams extra time to develop chemistry with D.J. Moore. We will have to see just how well this duo works out for the Bears.
