Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus has made a major change, amid a disappointing three game losing streak that has seen No. 1 overall pick, quarterback Caleb Williams regress dramatically in recent weeks.
Eberflus and the Bears have fired offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, according to multiple reports.
As ESPN’s Adam Schefter points out, the Bears have now gone 23 consecutive possessions without scoring a touchdown, as the offense ranks among the least productive in the league.
Williams has surpassed 200 passing yards just once over the past three weeks and hasn’t tossed a passing touchdown since a Week 6 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.
Despite drafting Williams, acquiring veteran running back D’Andre Swift, wide receivers Keenan Allen and rookie Rome Odunze, the Bears are averaging a meager 277.7 yards of total offense per game.
It seems that a disastrous 19-3 loss to the New England Patriots was too much for the Bears to withstand moving forward with the status quo. Williams and the Bears return to action Sunday against the NFC North rival Green Bay Packers.
Following Waldron’s dismissal, the pressure is now on head coach Matt Eberflus, perhaps more than ever, to turn things around, especially given how much the front office has invested in Williams.
