All eyes have been on the Chicago Bears this offseason. That is because they had the top overall draft pick and predictably used it on rookie phenom Caleb Williams.
However, before today, the Bears and Caleb Williams had yet to lock down an official contract. Now, that has changed, as the two sides have come to an agreement.
What does that agreement look like? How good of a deal is it for the Bears and Williams? Read below to find out the details.
Caleb Williams Receives 4-Year Deal Worth $39 Million
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Chicago Bears and Caleb Williams have officially come to an agreement. This contract will last for the next four years. Williams will receive $39 million in that stretch including a signing bonus worth $25.5 million. On top of this, Williams will have a fifth-year option.
Other Notable Rookie Contracts
Caleb Williams is not the only rookie quarterback from the Chicago Bears who got paid today. Just hours before Williams’ contract was announced, his new teammate, WR Rome Odunze, also received a contract. Odunze’s contract was for a little less money than Williams’. He will receive just over $22 million over the next four years.
As you can see, Williams received significantly more money. That is because he was the top overall pick, while Odunze was selected ninth overall.
A fairer comparison may be to Washington Commanders QB Jayden Daniel. That is because Daniels was selected by the Commanders with the second overall pick, right after Caleb Williams. Daniels will receive nearly $38 million over the next four years.
Chicago Bears and Caleb Williams Moving Forward
This is a great day for Chicago Bears fans. While most people likely expected Williams’ contract to get settled before the regular season began, the fact that this is now official will likely make Bears fans sleep easier for the rest of training camp. Chicago managed to lock down both Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze on the same day.
Now, Williams and the Bears can move forward and focus on the task at hand. That task is leading the Bears to a playoff appearance and perhaps even a Super Bowl. Caleb Williams has arguably received more hype than any quarterback who was drafted in the last decade. Now, with the contract between him and the Bears official, it is time to see if Williams is going to live up to the hype.
