There’s no denying Caleb Williams has been struggling as the Chicago Bears’ quarterback this season. The thing is, this partnership is responsible for a horrible stat and it’s not looking good for the rookie.
In the Bears’ latest matchup against the Houston Texans, Williams faced significant challenges, resulting in a 19-13 loss. Despite a strong start, where he completed his first five passes for 55 yards, the Bears’ offensive struggles quickly became apparent. Williams finished the game with 174 yards, two interceptions, and was sacked seven times, largely due to a porous offensive line that failed to provide adequate protection.
The first half saw Williams show promise, completing 12 of 15 passes, but the offense faltered with critical miscues, including four false starts and a failed third-and-short conversion. As the game progressed, Williams’ inexperience became evident, particularly when he threw back-to-back interceptions that stifled potential scoring drives.
While the Bears’ defense managed to contain the Texans for much of the second half, they couldn’t compensate for the offensive inefficiencies. Notably, the Bears rushed for only 71 yards, highlighting ongoing issues in the run game. Despite these setbacks, the defense kept the team in contention, even giving Williams a chance to drive for a potential game-winning score in the final moments.
As the Bears navigate a rocky start to the season, addressing the offensive line issues and improving overall execution will be crucial for Williams’ development and the team’s success moving forward. The road ahead will be challenging, but there’s a glimmer of hope if adjustments can be made.
Insane Stat Emphasizes Caleb Williams and Chicago Bears’ Massive Flaw in 2024 Season
According to an NFL analysis by Brad Gagnon for Bleacher Report, the Bears’ 3.0 yards per play has ranked dead last in the league.
“Williams—one of the most hyped top picks this century—is averaging just 1.3 completed air yards per attempt, which is by far the worst rate in the among qualifiers early on.
This Bears team was supposed to be on the rise with Williams, fellow top-10 rookie Rome Odunze and plenty of added support this season, but Williams has hardly showed up and Odunze has caught just three of the nine passes thrown his way.
At the very least, they face a lot of pressure to clean it up against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 3,” Gagnon wrote.
The Bears will face the Indianapolis Colts without key player Keenan Allen in Week 3, who is sidelined due to a lingering heel injury. Despite this setback, Caleb Williams still has talented receivers like DJ Moore and rookie Rome Odunze to lean on.
The Bears aim to turn their season around after a rocky start to the 2024 NFL campaign if they’ll get a win against the Colts. If they don’t expect Williams’ rookie woes to get only worse.
