Entering the 2025 NFL season, the Chicago Bears are expected to take a big step forward. After quite a few years of not being a contender in the NFC, the Bears put together an aggressive offseason.
To begin it all, the franchise decided to part ways with former head coach Matt Eberflus. They brought in former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson to replace him.
Following that move, Chicago went out to add quite a few pieces to the roster. Among those additions were offensive lineman Jonah Jackson, Joe Thuney, and Drew Dalman, pass rusher Dayo Odeyingbo, and defensive tackle Grady Jarrett.
All of that being said, the Bears have been linked to an intriguing trade ahead of the 2025 campaign.
Chicago Bears Linked to Interesting Trade Ahead of 2025 NFL Season
In the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, Chicago made a big move to add a weapon for second-year quarterback Caleb Williams. The Bears drafted former Michigan standout tight end Colston Loveland.
Cole Kmet was already on the roster, which has set up a potential logjam for Chicago. Could the team consider trading Kmet? That is what one writer has suggested.

For The Win analyst Cory Woodroof has suggested a trade between the Bears and Los Angeles Chargers that would send Kmet and a 2026 sixth-round pick out of town in exchange for a 2026 fourth-round pick.
“Kmet being traded to the Chargers just feels right. With the Bears taking Michigan tight end Colston Loveland in the first round, Chicago might be willing to move Kmet to a team needing a starting tight end,” Woodroof wrote.
“Los Angeles would give Kmet an instant upgrade at the position, and he feels like an instant fit in Greg Roman’s offense. The Chargers could send tight end Will Dissly back to Chicago to give the team a veteran second fiddle to Loveland. Kmet could return to top tight end status in L.A., and the Bears could give Loveland starting reps.”
Kmet is coming off of a 2024 NFL season with Chicago that saw him play in 17 games. He caught 47 passes for 474 yards and four touchdowns.
Back in the 2023 campaign, Kmet racked up 73 catches for 719 yards and six touchdowns.
At 26 years old, Kmet would be an intriguing trade target for any team that needs tight end help. The Chargers are not the only team who could pursue a trade for him, but this idea would make a lot of sense for all parties included.
